F. Luis
Mora painted many portraits of
his brother, Jo (Joseph Jacinto
Mora 1876-1947). They were close
as brothers. Before Jo went West
they spent much time together.
This portrait shows Jo as an
Outdoorsman, which was how he
spent his childhood and young
adult years in New Jersey and
Massachusetts. Jo appears
to be in his early 20s, dating
the painting circa 1900. The
background is apparently a barn.
There are hooks for saddles and
there are leather accoutrements
hanging on the wall, such as a
leather bag. This portrait is
not signed, like many other
portraits of Jo produced by his
brother Luis.
