We date this oil circa 1880 to 1890. A refined young lady in a glistening blouse and velvet jacket is surrounded by masses of peonies. She is in a connoisseur's home, featuring paintings, antique swords, fine furniture, and an Orientalia vase.
The canvas is in all-original condition. There is a small clean tear upper right, shown verso. The painting appears to have been cleaned in the past 15 years, there is some surface dirt only. We do not see any dirt embedded in the paint, nor are there restorations under black light.
