Rosemary Mora's Fifteenth Birthday Card
watercolor and pen on mat board
16 1/2 x 14 inches
framed in natural oak, double matted with self-mat and dark green
acid-free mat, 21 x 18 1/2 inches.
Rosemary Mora was born on July 27, 1918. This
is her hand-painted fifteenth birthday card from her father, F. Luis
Mora. It has Mora's self portrait at age 59, and a portrait of his
new wife, May Safford Mora at age 54. A charming cat helps
them hold a celebration garland. Below, two leprechauns offer
Rosemary a cardboard treasure chest, that still opens. Apparently
Mora put a crisp bill inside for Rosemary's birthday present.
He hand-lettered a celebratory poem, wishing her joy and happiness.
