These early Expressionist/Fauvist oils on canvas are
possibly by Karl (Carl) Hofer, German Expressionist painter, d1955.
Hofer traveled widely. He interned in Paris between 1914 and 1917,
where he was influenced by the Fauvists. Very few of Hofer's French works
are in existence.
The oils were purchased by an American physician who studied medicine in Geneva in the
1960s, and returned to America in 1973. He was a collector of
fine European art. We have
been consigned to sell the art in his estate. PLEASE CLICK THE IMAGES
FOR LARGER PHOTOS. The paintings are available for inspection on the Eastern
shore of Connecticut. The Buyer will receive a provenance letter from us,
and signed by the physician's heir.
Mountain Scene is signed CH Hofer 16 (1916). The
artist used CH extensively as his logo/monogram.
